Bridge face-to-face with Facebook

I recently had a wonderful discussion with a fellow educator at our school.  He was excited about a leadership conference he had recently attended.  Our conversation was focused on a topic that is near and dear to my heart: student and staff leadership.  We discussed the need for educators to help bridge the gap between social networking and social skills.  Even though the "screenagers" that enter our shops and classrooms everyday have been born with the ability to connect to the world digitally, they must learn how to connect with individuals, not only on Facebook, but also face-to-face.  A firm handshake must be taught to children who manipulate a qwerty keyboard with precision.  If we as educators miss the opportunity to teach social skills, our leaders of tomorrow might not look us in the eyes...
